Mod Squad-First Season V01

Justice Never Goes Out of Style.

Features: DVD, Checkpoint

Executive Producers Aaron Spelling and Danny Thomas' The Mod Squad comes to DVD, featuring the first 13 of 26 Season One episodes. Kids in trouble with the law who become undercover detectives, the trio consisted of rich, long-haired Pete Cochran (Michael Cole), Lincoln "Linc" Hayes (Clarence Williams, III) from Watts, and the beautiful flower child Julie Barnes (Peggy Lipton). They're recruited by police captain Adam Greer (Tige Andrews) for a covert unit that will help bridge the generation gap.

The resulting series, influenced by the Sixties youth movement, became an instant classic. Each week, these three cops with love beads wrestled with criminals -- and their own consciences. They may have been "the fuzz," but they were determined to never compromise their values. They were The Mod Squad!

"...iconic in the way it assimilated a multicultural cast to do something young and fresh...Definitely worth a look."  Brett Cullum, DVD Verdict
"...an absolute must have; it is a piece of our history. Even if you were born a bit later it is still great television so sit back and enjoy."  Home Theater Info
"...the style and overall vibe of the show make for a fun trip back to the late 60s. Can you dig it?"  Jeremy Lynch, Crimespree Cinema
"...a hip cop show that brought the language of the streets and the sensibility of late-'60s Sunset Boulevard to standard-issue stories of thugs and drugs."  Noel Murray, The Onion A.V. Club
"...has plenty of soul and style for the nostalgically minded fans who want a solid trip back in time."  Paul Mavis, DVD Talk

Editor's Note

Cops and hippies never get along. That is, until the MOD SQUAD came along. Debuting in 1968, the hit series offered a countercultural spin on the conventional police drama. Able to go places normal cops can't, the Mod Squad includes a diverse group of young adults who have had their share of trouble with the law: rich kid turned car thief Peter (Michael Cole); Watts rioter Linc (Clarence Williams III); and free-spirited runaway Julie (Peggy Lipton). Together, they form a tenuous alliance with the fuzz, going undercover to nab lowlifes who prey on the young, while also grappling with the moral dilemmas presented by selling out to "the man." Though the premise may seem far-fetched, the series is actually based on the experiences of series creator Bud Ruskin, who worked in an L.A. narcotics squad. This collection presents the first volume of the landmark series' debut season.
